Peter was previously Principal of an independent school for children aged 3 years to 16 years and also served as the Director of the Schools Division of the Centre for Advanced Studies in London where he provided leadership for a key division of the company with responsibility for the efficient and effective operation of the schools including the line management of the head teachers. His research interests at the University of Birmingham include leaders and leadership in education.
In 1986 Peter, as a proprietor, established from scratch what has become a highly successful preparatory school. Previous to this he was a head of department in both a comprehensive and a special school.
From his personal experience Peter has a clear understanding of the challenges and demands made on head teachers and governors in the present financial, political and educational climate, including the expectations of parents and the requirements of statutory bodies. These include:
- managing the school as an effective, efficient and economic educational business;
- increasing profitability by making use of the premises and facilities throughout the chronological year;
- ensuring compliance with regulatory and best practice procedures, including managing change, with regard to the curriculum and ECM agendas, governance, the duty of care, employment, and health and safety;
- preparing the school and staff for inspections and follow up procedures;
- parent issues.
